Selling Her House, Building a Fortune: Shubhra Chaddha’s Inspiring Journey

In the pursuit of her dreams, Shubhra Chaddha exemplified unwavering determination by selling her house to fund her entrepreneurial journey. Her belief in her business idea and her own capabilities led her to create a company now worth crores.

Journey to Success

Shubhra Chaddha completed her graduation in commerce from Mount Carmel College in Bangalore and later earned her master’s degree in PR and advertising from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. After her studies, she worked in the corporate sector, earning a substantial salary for several years.

The Spark of a Business Idea

In 2005, Shubhra married Vivek Prabhakar, and in 2008, they welcomed a daughter. During her maternity break, Shubhra had the opportunity to contemplate her business idea. Both she and her husband loved traveling and collecting unique items from various places. She noticed that foreign tourists in India also enjoyed taking back special mementos representing the country. This insight led to the birth of her company, Chumbak Design. Vivek soon joined her in this venture.

Creating Unique Souvenirs

Instead of the usual Taj Mahal souvenirs, Shubhra designed innovative gifts like fridge magnets, reflecting the essence of her company. To fund this business, they sold their house and raised ₹40 lakhs, starting the business from their apartment. The initial six months were challenging, and they faced the risk of shutting down.

However, Shubhra and Vivek’s perseverance paid off, and in 2010, they opened their own lifestyle store. This store not only offered unique gifts but also readymade clothes, artificial jewelry, and home decor items. Today, Chumbak Design boasts over 70 stores across various cities in India.

An Inspiration for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Shubhra Chaddha’s story is a beacon of inspiration, especially for women in the business world. Her journey from conceptualizing a business idea at home to building a successful enterprise demonstrates that with determination and belief, no obstacle is insurmountable.
