At its heart, Co-Videos: The Corona Spectacles is a reminder that humanity faced the crisis together—and survived together. With humor, imagination, and empathy, the book turns a difficult chapter in world history into a collection of memorable storytelling moments.
1. What inspired you to write this book?
The inspiration behind this book was the global crisis of COVID-19. I wrote it during the lockdown period when the world had suddenly slowed down. During that time, I was curious about how people were coping and surviving through such an unusual phase.
I have always considered myself a creative soul, and I often felt that I had stories inside me waiting to be expressed. The lockdown gave me the time and opportunity to finally explore that calling. Since childhood, I enjoyed writing vivid and imaginative stories, and becoming a writer was always a dream of mine.
During the lockdown, with ample time and a computer at my disposal, I decided to write about the very topic everyone was discussing—the pandemic. I began by thinking of ten stories, starting with my own experiences and gradually expanding them into imaginative narratives.
2. What was your writing process while creating these stories?
My writing process was simple yet immersive. My day usually began with morning tea, followed by a thermos of green tea that stayed beside me while I worked.
Before writing, I would close my eyes and try to get into the creative flow. I would visualize the character I was writing about and imagine the setting of the story. Once I could clearly see the scene in my mind, I would simply start writing and let the story unfold naturally.
This method helped me explore each scenario freely and allowed the stories to develop organically.
3. Are the characters in your book based on real people?
Yes, many of the characters were inspired by people I know in real life. However, I added my own creative twists and imaginative elements to make the stories more entertaining.
A little bit of “mirch-masala” always makes storytelling more engaging. I have always been known for my imagination, so I allowed that creativity to shape the characters and situations in unique ways.
4. Why did you choose COVID-19 as the central theme of the book?
I chose COVID-19—commonly known as Corona—because it was a global event that affected every single person in some way.
At the same time, I felt that such a heavy topic needed a touch of light-heartedness. My goal was not only to reflect the struggles people faced but also to present them through engaging and relatable storytelling.
I also wanted readers to remember the sacrifices made by frontline heroes such as doctors and police officers who worked tirelessly during that difficult time. As a global community, we went through that phase together—and we survived.
5. Did you conduct research while writing the book?
Yes, I did some research while writing. I looked into certain locations that appear in the stories—some that I had visited personally and others that I imagined.
I also followed news updates during the pandemic, which helped keep my ideas fresh and relevant. This allowed me to create a world in the book that feels rich, immersive, and connected to real events.
6. What challenges did you face as a first-time author?
As a first-time author, I honestly did not know what to expect. I wasn’t sure how the process would unfold or how the final outcome would look.
So I relied mostly on my instincts and creative energy. I simply followed my gut and allowed the stories to grow naturally.
Fortunately, I had strong support from my entire family, and that encouragement meant a lot to me throughout the writing journey.
7. How did you ensure the book keeps readers engaged?
To keep readers engaged, I decided to keep the stories short, crisp, and enjoyable. I avoided unnecessary exaggerations or overly dramatic elements.
Instead, I focused on creating simple yet impactful chapters. Each story was carefully crafted, and I put considerable effort into making every chapter interesting and memorable.
8. In today’s digital world, how do you see books staying relevant?
The world today is becoming increasingly digital, and there is certainly a lot of competition for attention. Social media provides instant information, and many things are quickly consumed and forgotten.
However, books speak to readers on a deeper emotional level. They don’t rely on batteries, screens, or advertisements. A book connects directly with the reader’s imagination and thoughts.
I strongly believe that the right audience will always find meaningful books. In fact, many people eventually return to reading because it offers a unique form of relaxation and rejuvenation.
Experience a creative and imaginative reflection of the pandemic era through engaging storytelling.
