Aadhaar, which gives a unique number to the common man, has reached an all-time high of 10.6 million face authentication transactions in May.
Aadhaar-based face authentication for service delivery has picked up tremendously and May is the second month in a row that face authentication transactions have crossed 10 million.
Transactions At High Level After October 2021
According to UIDAI’s press release, the number of face authentication transactions is on the rise and the monthly numbers seen in May have increased by 38 per cent since its launch in October 2021 (10.6 million) as compared to such transactions reported in January 2023. ) is high level.
Who Is Using It?
AI based face authentication solution developed by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is being used by 47 entities. This includes state government departments, central government ministries and some banks.
It is being used to register beneficiaries under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, authentication of beneficiaries in PM Kisan Yojana and also to generate digital life certificate at home by pensioners.
Apart from this, it is also being used to mark the attendance of employees in many government departments and to open bank accounts in some leading banks through their business correspondents.
What Is Its Advantage?
According to the press release, face authentication gives features like ease of use, faster authentication and along with its fingerprint and OTP authentication is also used as an additional means to strengthen the authentication success rate.
14.86 Million Updates Executed
According to the release, in May UIDAI executed 14.86 million Aadhaar updates following requests from residents. According to the release, more than 254 million e-KYC transactions were done in May alone.
