The idea came to me when I attended a wedding. I wanted to write a story that blended emotions, memory, and relationships with retro elements.

I completed the first draft in 2016, and over the years the core emotional arc and central characters remained consistent, even as the storytelling approach evolved during reworks over the decade.

Cassettes serve as a narrative anchor in the book, weaving together themes of growth, discovery, friendship, transformation, and the ways time reshapes connections.

Can you share some insights into your writing process? Do you follow a specific routine or have any unique rituals that help you get into the creative flow?

I generally write in a flexible way rather than following a strict routine.

Traveling, sketching, and photography play an important role in my writing process. Visual storytelling through both photography and words helped shape a layered story that unfolds across different cities, allowing the characters to come to life.

The characters in your book are quite distinct and memorable. Are they based on real people, or did they evolve purely from your imagination?

All the characters in 27 Tracks Between Us are entirely fictional and are not intended to represent any real individuals, institutions, organizations, businesses, or events.

Each character adds a new dimension to the story as it moves across cities and memories.

27 Tracks Between Us follows the journey of its characters—their evolution, connections, and emotional growth—through cassettes as the central theme.

The world-building in your novel feels immersive. How did you create the setting?

The story unfolds across nine cities, including Bangalore, Mysore, Pune, and Trichy, among others.
