Falling In and Out: A Gripping Journey Through Time, Choices, and Fate – Life’s Greatest ‘What Ifs’ Await You By Author Nishant Prakash https://heraldpost.in/falling-in-and-out-a-gripping-journey-through-time-choices-and-fate-lifes-greatest-what-ifs-await-you-by-author-nishant-prakash/ https://heraldpost.in/falling-in-and-out-a-gripping-journey-through-time-choices-and-fate-lifes-greatest-what-ifs-await-you-by-author-nishant-prakash/#respond Thu, 19 Dec 2024 06:32:30 +0000 https://heraldpost.in/?p=4578
  • What inspired you to write this particular book, and how did the idea for the story come to you?
  • I’ve always been a fan of speculative fiction and time travel stories. The inherent complexity of storytelling under such contexts is what makes this genre so appealing to readers and writers alike. But be it the lighthearted situations in a ‘Groundhog Day’ (the 1993 Classic) or the tumultuous predicament of the core characters in a ‘Dark’ (the Netflix blockbuster), what sets these stories apart is the basic human emotions that come to the fore under scenarios that normal human beings like you and me would have never been exposed to. How do you make the readers relate to such speculative scenarios? How do you make them feel for these characters? Those are just some of the questions that for me, as a writer, acted as a motivation behind piecing my story together.

    1. Can you share some insights into your writing process? Do you follow a specific routine or have any unique rituals that help you get into the creative flow?

I see writing as a means to relax my brain cells, focusing them on something that truly takes my mind off material things, and my thoughts away from the world and happenings around me. In many ways, it truly lets my mind wander into a world that is mine to create. I like studying people and observing situations around me, and then pondering over the ‘Why’s behind them. I believe this knack of keenly observing things, before I open my mouth or interject, is something that has helped me as a writer as well. I honestly believe that you need a certain level of research for penning down any relevant piece of literature – in my case, a large portion of this research comes from observing people and situations around me.

    1. The characters in your book are quite distinct and memorable. Are they based on real people, or did they evolve purely from your imagination?

While none of the characters in my book are based on real people, some of the situations that they face and their respective reactions are inspired by real life situations that I’ve observed throughout my life. For example – the book alludes to the growing communal and caste-based sentiments in the India of the 90’s and early 2000’s, and how it changed the mental makeup of some of the most rational human beings you knew around you. Most of the other character traits and details are based on careful persona detailing done at the start of the book, the journeys that each of the characters takes after this.

    1. Your book delves into how contemporary issues shape individuals. What motivated you to explore this theme, and what messages or discussions do you hope readers will take away from your work?

In a world where most of us tend to look at things and people as Black or White, only a few dare to look beyond this façade and realize that everything and every person around them are actually different shades of grey. The degree of this greyness is often defined by the situations and circumstances that each individual goes through, and how these changed their perspectives of themselves, others and the world around them. If only more people get to realize this, they might get better equipped at dealing with their surroundings and understand each other’s perspectives. While the central theme of the novel is around time travel, it is this innate understanding of human conditioning that is core to its build up.

    1. The world-building in your novel is incredibly rich and immersive. How did you go about creating the setting, and did you draw inspiration from any real-world locations or historical events?

Much like the situations these characters go through, that have been borrowed from real / contemporary ones, many of the locations and events covered in the book are also inspired by real locations and events. The only complexity here was figuring out how these might change as the characters travel through multiple realities and timelines, especially when they aren’t the only moving pieces in these universes.

    1. As a writer, how do you balance the need for originality with the expectations of the genre? Were there any challenges in putting your unique spin on familiar elements?

For me, originality comes from the way a story is told, the execution and the varied perspectives and elements it is able to bring together, that might not have been tried in the past, when a similar idea was laid out. The biggest challenge that I faced was around the running commentaries on contemporary issues in the book that may or may not have appealed to the mass public opinion – as a writer you have to be aware of these, choose the ones that are necessary for storytelling, and then stick to your guns in terms of not letting external opinion drive your narrative. It’s easier said than done, or so I realized during the 2 rounds of extensive editing that my book had to go through. But what makes this effort worthwhile is knowing that the outcome is something that you know is essential to the core story of the book – anything else could potentially be a distraction.

    1. The pacing of the story is well-crafted, keeping readers engaged from start to finish. Can you share your approach to maintaining tension and momentum throughout the narrative?

When I first shared my book with a group of beta readers, some of their initial reactions were that the book lacked pace to start with, but gradually, as they read through the entire manuscript, the common consensus was that there was a need to have a dual pace while telling this story – the first part of the book is more detailed and nuanced, as it helps the readers really get to know these characters and appreciate their choices; once this is established, the second part is naturally more pacey, building up the right oomph and thrill to the story that this genre demands. There is a risk here that many hardcore readers of this genre might decide to take a pause before the start of Part 2, but for those that decide to stick through, the payoff in the second half and the ending will be worth the buildup.

    1. In the age of rapidly changing media and reader preferences, how do you see the role of traditional storytelling evolving, and how do you adapt your writing to connect with contemporary audiences?

There’s a reason why more novels like ‘Falling In & Out’ are coming out in 2024 and not back in 2004 – the changing media and reader preferences have given opportunity to more forms of alternative story telling that would not have had the appeal in the decades gone by. While I still believe that a good story would always stand out regardless of which year or what era it comes out in, one cannot turn a blind eye to the changing demands of readers and audiences, who ultimately decide the fate of a book. At its core, storytelling is about connecting with human emotions, values, and experiences—an aspect that technology or trends cannot replace. However, how stories are told and consumed has evolved, demanding writers to adapt. And the way you adapt is by:

    1. a) bringing in more contemporary issues,
    2. b) making your characters more diverse and the themes more relevant to these contemporary issues,
    3. c) from a pure selling perspective, leveraging multiple platforms and formats to be able to reach the right audience who would be appreciative of such themes.

Onjalitale Moti: A Literary Gem of Life’s Emotions and Insights by Author Satish Sapre https://heraldpost.in/onjalitale-moti-a-literary-gem-of-lifes-emotions-and-insights-by-author-satish-sapre/ https://heraldpost.in/onjalitale-moti-a-literary-gem-of-lifes-emotions-and-insights-by-author-satish-sapre/#respond Thu, 19 Dec 2024 06:25:51 +0000 https://heraldpost.in/?p=4575
  • What gave you the inspiration to write this novel, and how did the plot develop?
  • Writing has been one of my passions. I had the habit of scribbling a few lines now and then. On sharing with some of my friends, I got very encouraging feedback from many. Their motivation inspired me to venture into book writing.

    1. Could you provide us some details about how you write? Do you have any special rituals or a set schedule that you follow to help you enter the creative flow?

Mind is full of thoughts. There are quite a few things which happen around you all the time. Some very routine, some very different. Any observation that gets connected with thoughts, can translate into a story. Creativity starts from within.

It does not follow your plan but is more impulsive in nature. The only thing I do when I feel like writing is I select an ambience which is peaceful, pleasant and syncs with my writing mood.

    1. Your book’s characters are incredibly unique and unforgettable. Did they come from your imagination alone, or are they based on real people?

The characters I would say are a mix of real and imaginative. Every person is unique and a limited edition. Some of them you meet in real life, some you visualize.

    1. The subject matter of your book is [specific issue or topic]. What questions or discussions do you want readers to have after reading your writing, and what motivated you to research this topic?

My book provides readers with assorted forms of Marathi literature. It has poems, stories, short stories, some new proverbs, articles based on some day-to-day events. I am sure readers will be able to relate themselves very closely with the contents of the book. Some of the stories are thought provoking as well as have a subtle social message.

    1. The world you have created in your novel is exceptionally vibrant and engaging. What was your approach to developing the setting, and did you take inspiration from any actual places or historical occurrences?

If you are a keen observer and take interest in anything and everything around you, any place, event, incidence, location provides inspiration. Right from my childhood, I was fascinated with idioms, phrases, quotations, proverbs in different languages and would memorize any such thing I liked. It has helped in my writing.

    1. As a writer, how do you maintain a balance between being unique and staying within the expectations of a specific genre? Did you encounter any difficulties in adding your own creative twist to common elements?

Every writer needs to have his/her unique style / flavor. Anything that you have read / heard/seen helps you while penning down your thoughts. Keeping in mind the current trend in reading, I wanted to have a book that was very crisp and having various elements rather than a single story or one type of literature. Biggest challenge is the vastness and variety of your own internal thoughts which makes it difficult to be content with what you want to do or what you have done.

    1. The story is expertly paced, captivating readers from beginning to end with its well-crafted progression. Could you please explain how you keep the tension and momentum going in your story?

The approach I have followed is to keep it short and simple. A mix of different types of literature forms means there is no monotonicity.

    1. How do you think traditional storytelling is changing in the face of evolving media and reader preferences, and how do you adjust your writing to resonate with modern audiences?

It was always said and known that only change is constant. The only difference today is that we are witnessing it at a very rapid pace. You cannot continue to do the same thing TODAY the way it was done YESTERDAY and still hope to be accepted by all TOMORROW. Everything that has been done in the past has laid a good foundation. Today social media / internet / AI is assuming more and more importance as well as dependance. However, the fact remains that there is no substitute to reading. You only need to engage with the audience keeping in mind their taste in changing times.

Discover the Hidden Wonders of Your Health with “Human Body Inside Out” by Dr. Geeta Sundar https://heraldpost.in/discover-the-hidden-wonders-of-your-health-with-human-body-inside-out-by-dr-geeta-sundar/ https://heraldpost.in/discover-the-hidden-wonders-of-your-health-with-human-body-inside-out-by-dr-geeta-sundar/#respond Thu, 19 Dec 2024 05:51:33 +0000 https://heraldpost.in/?p=4569 1.What specifically qualified you to write this book, and what life experiences or knowledge do you bring to the subject?

I got the feedback from my patients and acquaintances of the need for a good book that explained what the Human body looks like, and how it works. They wanted it written in a simple language that was easily understood. Since I have been writing Health books and Fiction since 2000, and practicing as a consultant in medicine for 45 years, I felt I was equipped to do this.

    1. Could you give a brief synopsis of your work and how it tackles the most important issues facing the modern world?

Human Body Inside Out is a comprehensive resource that promises to elevate the reader’s understanding of the intricate workings of the human body and a practical guide that empowers readers with actionable knowledge, enabling them to make informed decisions about their health

It is also a valuable asset for Paramedical health workers like Physiotherapists and Nurses, and even medical practitioners seeking a comprehensive, and readily available reference book.

I have endeavored to interweave anatomy (structure), physiology (functions), and disease to provide the reader with a holistic understanding of the body. Every organ and system has been explored, including the human mind, which remains largely enigmatic, not only to the general public but also to us doctors. Molecular biology— delving into the cellular, atomic, and genetic structure of the body, has also been included, catering to the interests of well-informed readers who seek to comprehend the body at the microscopic level. Few subjects can rival the complexity of the human body. The more one learns about it, the deeper the fascination grows. It is so intricately designed that no single individual can claim to fully fathom it within a lifetime. However, I have tried to present it in an easily comprehensible manner. The human body can be likened to a fully automated machine consisting of numerous organ systems. Each system possesses its own unique functions but relies on the support of other organ systems to operate effectively. While the brain and heart may be recognized as crucial, they wouldn’t function without the kidneys, lungs, and liver. In fact, every cell in the body is self-contained. Our bodies can be influenced by factors beyond our control. For instance, consider the impact of certain inherited genes that lead to conditions like short stature, obesity, cancer, diabetes, and hypertension—unfortunate, but not of our making. Environmental factors and upbringing also play a significant role in shaping our bodies, for better or worse. To illustrate, imagine ten individuals sitting on the banks of the Ganges releasing lit oil lamps into the river simultaneously. Each lamp has subtle variations in weight, oil content, and wick size (inherited genetic traits), affecting how they move in the water. Furthermore, environmental factors like water turbulence, unexpected waves, obstructions in the water, or gusts of wind can alter the course of these lamps. Some may follow a straight path, others deviate to the side, and some are extinguished quickly, while the most unfortunate ones capsize. This analogy mirrors our lives, as we are born with certain genetic advantages and disadvantages that can be modified or influenced by a plethora of environmental factors, including our home environment, friends, associates, and the lifestyles we adopt. It is clear that disease can afflict us due to the conscious decisions we make as well as due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, such as unfavorable genetic traits or adverse environmental factors. I have endeavored to keep the book concise, and have included numerous illustrations to make it engaging and accessible.

In a rapidly changing world, and our busy lifestyles, it is increasingly becoming difficult to manage our health. Health books like Human Body Inside Out, can play a big role in disease prevention and management, by equipping us with Scientific knowledge on Health.

    1. Could you list a few of the most important lessons or revelations that readers should anticipate from your book?

I certainly hope readers will be impacted in the following way—–

    • They will learn to respect and take care of this beautiful creation called the Human Body that has evolved over a period of 4 billion years.
    • They will understand the importance of prevention to postpone Lifestyle diseases.
    • Use the book as a ready reckoner to understand a disease before and when it strikes.
    1. Which of your book’s case studies or real-world examples best exemplify the concepts you discuss?

For example, in the chapter on Heart, I have given the example of two cases. One, where a single doctor called in an emergency for a heart attack, could not save the patient, And the second, where another patient, immediately rushed to hospital was saved. I have highlighted this example with the quote—‘In an emergency, call an ambulance, not a doctor!’

I have stressed on the importance of REGULARITY in eating, sleeping, exercising, testing in management of Lifestyle diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension, Obesity and Cardiovascular problems.

In the chapter on Bronchial asthma, I have highlighted that if an asthmatic turns blue—RUSH him to hospital.

I have highlighted the impact of stress and insomnia on disease creation

In the chapter on Constipation, I have highlighted that if you ignore the early morning urge to defecate called mass reflex, you can end up with chronic constipation leading to its complications like Piles, Fissure, Hernia and Fistula.

These are just a few examples.

    1. When creating this book, did you face any special difficulties or barriers? If so, how did you get beyond them?

It has taken me 12 years to write this book. I have had to accumulate a lot of material and put it together in simple language that is easily understood. Since I had to write about the full body, it was obviously not an easy task. By taking time and doing it slowly, it became feasible.

    1. What benefits do you think readers will derive from your work, and how will it positively affect their lives in your opinion?

Any reader wanting to know about a particular part or the full body, can pick up my book and gain more than a basic amount of knowledge. Gaining scientific knowledge is being self-armed against disease and will certainly have a positive effect on their overall health and well-being.

    1. In an ever-evolving world, how can a book remain current and flexible for readers throughout time?

Yes, that is a question relevant to any health book. Knowledge of the Human body is growing at a phenomenal rate, especially with the advent of AI. But by and large, basic Anatomy and Physiology will continue to remain the same. However, like my other health books I do intend to revise and update this book too once in 5 years to continue to keep it relevant.

The Secret Language of Bank Cheques: Understanding the Numbers at the Bottom https://heraldpost.in/the-secret-language-of-bank-cheques-understanding-the-numbers-at-the-bottom/ https://heraldpost.in/the-secret-language-of-bank-cheques-understanding-the-numbers-at-the-bottom/#respond Sun, 15 Dec 2024 03:29:05 +0000 https://heraldpost.in/?p=4556 Bank cheques are a secure and widely used means of financial transactions. At the bottom of every cheque, specific numbers are printed, each carrying important information. These numbers are not random—they serve as security features and reveal various details about the cheque. Many people are unaware of their significance. Let’s uncover what each of these numbers means:

    1. Cheque Number

The first set of numbers is the cheque number, consisting of six digits. This number is vital for record-keeping and tracking purposes. When issuing a cheque, the cheque number is the most critical detail to note.

    2. MICR Code

The Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) code is a 9-digit number that can be read by specialized machines. It helps banks identify the branch from which the cheque was issued. The MICR code is divided into three parts, each with a specific purpose.

    3. City Code

The first three digits of the MICR code represent the city code, which corresponds to the first three digits of the city’s postal PIN code. This number helps determine the city from which the cheque originated.

    4. Bank Code

The next three digits of the MICR code represent the bank code, which is unique to each bank. For example, ICICI Bank’s code is 229, while HDFC Bank’s code is 240. This code identifies the bank to which the cheque belongs.

    5. Branch Code

The last three digits of the MICR code are the branch code, which is unique to each bank branch. This code specifies the branch from which the cheque was issued, aiding in smooth transaction processing.

    6. Bank Account Number

In newer cheque books, your bank account number is also printed. This feature was not present in older cheque books printed before the implementation of Core Banking Solutions (CBS).

    7. Transaction ID

The last two digits printed at the bottom of the cheque indicate the transaction ID. Numbers like 29, 30, and 31 represent “at par” cheques, which can be cleared anywhere in the country. Meanwhile, 09, 10, and 11 represent local cheques that are processed within the same city.

Understanding these numbers not only enhances security but also empowers cheque users with essential knowledge about their financial transactions.

Fog and Cold Wave Forecast in North India: IMD Updates https://heraldpost.in/fog-and-cold-wave-forecast-in-north-india-imd-updates/ https://heraldpost.in/fog-and-cold-wave-forecast-in-north-india-imd-updates/#respond Mon, 09 Dec 2024 02:56:12 +0000 https://heraldpost.in/?p=4497 New Delhi: The weather in Delhi-NCR took an unexpected turn on Sunday evening as light rain was recorded across various areas. This sudden spell of rain led to a noticeable increase in cold. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the chill is likely to intensify in the coming days, with a cold wave forecast for different parts of the country. On the brighter side, the rainfall is expected to reduce pollution levels, offering some relief to residents.

    Rainfall Recorded Across Delhi-NCR

Several areas in Delhi, including Akbar Road, Pandara Park, and Kota House, witnessed light rain. Similarly, regions in the NCR, such as Gurugram, Noida, and Ghaziabad, also experienced rainfall. This weather change has caused a dip in temperature, with predictions of further drops in the coming days.

IMD: Rain Triggered by Western Disturbance

The IMD attributed the rainfall to a western disturbance over central Pakistan and adjoining areas. The department had earlier forecast light to moderate rain in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR from Sunday through the next two days. IMD scientist Naresh Kumar confirmed the prediction, stating, “The western disturbance in central Pakistan has caused light rain, with similar conditions expected in the Himalayas, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR today and tomorrow.”

Temperature Dip and Cold Wave Warning

Post-rainfall, temperatures in Delhi-NCR are anticipated to drop significantly, with a cold wave expected to grip North India. The IMD predicts a gradual decrease in temperatures starting December 9. The cold wave is likely to affect Rajasthan first, followed by Punjab and Haryana. Between December 9 and December 14, western Rajasthan is expected to experience severe cold wave conditions, with similar weather spreading to Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh from December 11.

Dense Fog Alert for Several States

The IMD has also issued a dense fog warning for several regions over the next few days:

    • Punjab and Haryana: Until December 10
    • Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura: Till December 11
    • Bihar: December 9-11
    • Himachal Pradesh: December 10-12
    • Uttar Pradesh: December 10-13

Residents are advised to prepare for colder temperatures and limited visibility due to dense fog in the affected areas.

In the Perth Test match, Team India earned widespread praise for their performance, but the narrative took a sharp turn after the Adelaide Test. While India dominated Australia in Perth, their performance in Adelaide fell short in both batting and bowling. The main challenge was the day-night Test format, played with the pink ball, which exposed India’s vulnerabilities.

This was not the first time India faltered in a pink-ball Test. On their last tour of Australia, India suffered a humiliating collapse, being bowled out for just 36 runs in the second innings—their lowest score in Test history. While this time was not as disastrous, the loss highlighted ongoing issues with preparation and adaptability, driven by the policies of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

BCCI’s Role in India’s Pink Ball Struggles

    Batting and Bowling Missteps

In Adelaide, India’s batting lineup, including stalwarts like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, struggled against the pace and movement of the pink ball. The bowlers, too, failed to maintain accurate line and length, often bowling outside off-stump, allowing Australian batsmen to score freely. These shortcomings pointed to a lack of familiarity and preparation for the pink-ball format.

    Lack of Practice Matches

India’s infrequent exposure to day-night Test matches is a critical factor. Unlike Australia, which has played 12 day-night Tests and lost just one, India has only played five, winning three and losing two. Most of India’s victories came on home soil, while they struggled in away conditions.

Sporadic Pink Ball Matches in India

    Timeline of Day-Night Tests

    • November 2019: India played their first day-night Test in Kolkata against Bangladesh and won.
    • December 2020: The second pink-ball Test, played in Adelaide, ended in a heavy defeat.
    • February 2021: India defeated England in Ahmedabad in their third day-night Test.
    • January 2022: India won their fourth pink-ball Test against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.
    • 2024: India faced Australia in Adelaide, marking their first pink-ball Test in nearly 32 months.

This timeline reveals long gaps between matches, which hinder players from gaining consistency with the pink ball. During this period, India played several Test series but did not incorporate day-night formats, limiting exposure.

    The Domestic Cricket Gap

The lack of pink-ball matches at the domestic level compounds the problem. While India experimented with the pink ball in the 2016 Duleep Trophy, the format was abandoned in subsequent domestic tournaments. Regular use of the pink ball in domestic cricket could help players develop the skills and confidence needed for day-night Tests at the international level.

    Conclusion

India’s struggles in pink-ball Tests stem from a combination of poor preparation and inconsistent opportunities. While other teams like Australia have adapted to the day-night format, India’s reluctance to embrace the pink ball—both internationally and domestically—has left its players underprepared. To address these challenges, the BCCI must prioritize incorporating pink-ball matches into domestic tournaments and increase the frequency of day-night Tests in India’s international schedule.
